Altima Coupe - Auto-dimming rearview mirror (why don't I have a compass?)

Hi all - I have a fully-loaded 3.5SE Altima Coupe. I noticed today that my auto-dimming rearview mirror doesn't have a digital compass. Shouldn't there be a digital compass on the top right corner of the mirror? Have I just not been seeing it for the past two months of driving it? I just went to Nissan's website to double-check and here is the description it gives for the mirror: "Detects glare and automatically dims; The brighter the glare, the darker the mirror becomes; Features a digital compass and HomeLink™ Universal Transceiver, which opens garage doors and security gates."

For all of you who have the 3.5SE, let me know if you have a digital compass.

LOL, did you turn it on?

There's a little button on the left side, marked with an N I believe (as in "North"). Press it.

hmm... odd. I do have the digital compass on my 3.5SE PP. But it's on when I turn the car on...

When you say fully loaded, do you mean you have nav.? I have a fully loaded 3.5 with nav. and no compass in my mirror.....

Is there a little square on the top right corner of your mirror? And does your mirror dim? If so, then maybe somethings wrong with it. If not, you don't have the auto-dimming mirror.

I wonder if the cars with navi they remove the compass since you could just use the nav to see which direction you're going?

If you have the NAV it doesn't matter. You should still have the compass on the rearview.

It is toggled on/off as desired. By the button I mentioned.

Oh, yeah, I know you can turn it on/off. Somehow I was under the impression that maybe hers is off when her car is turned on...

Hmm... I wasn't aware that I could turn it on and off! I will have to go try that.

There's isn't a square at the top right, but it is the auto dimming mirror and allows me to program my garage opener. Hopefully I'll follow the poster's suggestion up above and see if I have a button that I can use to turn it on...

Yes, I have the nav... and I thought, hmm... it doesn't really matter whether or not I have the compass, but if it's supposed to have one then I'd like it to work. I was checking out my mirror the other day and didn't know a square at all... however, maybe it just blends into the rest of the mirror when it's turned off. Thank you all for your suggestions... I'll go and find that on-off button.

SARAH... I heard someone else with this same story...In ADVANTAGE NISSAN in NY... This guy had a 3.5 navi with a plain old mirror... he bitched... they ordered it..

Would you ask for a clutch pedal with a CVT transmission? The compass is incorporated into the NAV system. There is no need for it to be on the mirror.

My mirror didn't come with a compass and i have the nav. I'm guessing since i can hit the GPS system on my navi it can tell me if i'm N-S-E-W. I was thinking that if you had both that might conflict with each other maybe thats why they left it out?

Have you tried to resolve this issue with your dealer? If you saved your window sticker (most folks don't) what does it read? I have a 2.5 "loaded, incl. NAV". Window sticker says Compass on rear-view mirror w/ home link is included in the SL Package I paid for. Dealer says Nissan says they deleted the compass because I bought the Technology Pkg (includes NAV). Only thing is I have seen nothing in writing to indicate the Compass is a "delete" with NAV on my July-built '07. I've heard the '08 window stickers DO show "compass delete" when NAV system is ordered, but I have not seen this in person.Nissan is full of crap on this one and they don't have a leg to stand on! I intend to report Nissan to the Ohio State Attorney General's office if the dealer does not cough up what I paid for. My attorney son says Nissan will probably give in because they know they will lose this one. Good luck.

I have the nav, and I don't have the compass. I asked the dealer about it, he said if you have the navigation, you don;t get the compass. However my rearview mirror does dim and has the homelink.

I don't think Nissan will give out the compass rearview mirrors if you complain. If they do, I have my sticker and will get one too
