What does anyone need to watch a volt meter for? Might as well watch the tach
Laser: you can't pick up bounce-offs from other peoples' cars. Test after test after test has been done showing that for all practical purposes there is no such thing as incidental laser warning. Passive (or active) countermeasures are all you can hope for. Yes, instant-on incidental warning works...if there are enough other drivers around.
Lazy cops: I don't know about where you've lived/driven, but aside from the Atlantic states I've driven all over this fair land of ours, and the state troopers are more than active when it comes to flipping the switch.
Volt meters: back in the day, real cars came with gauges that included volt and ammeters. That way, when real men who knew what they were doing saw the gauge read ZERO on the dash, they pulled over and had their alternator replaced before it stalled them in the left lane of the 405 after running off the battery for the past 50 miles (shorting the battery in the process and adding to the repair bill).
Well I guess that qualifies as a thread hijack...time to wander off to the garage and see if I have a little orange LED by my sunroof controls that I've missed for the past 4 months somehow (or if it's yet one more thing broken on my 'new' car).
