I have had my Altima Coupe for about a week and have the following questions:

1.) The owner's manual says there should be a compass on the rearview mirror. Is this missing because I have the navigation system?

2.) My seat belt does not have a ding/chime when I am not wearing it. Is there a way to turn this warning on? I know most people prefer to not have this warning, but being forced to wear it can't hurt.

3.) I am close to needing more gas and my car is telling me how many miles to empty. I have also notices the triangle with the exclamation point warning light. Is this warning light related to being low on gas?

4.) Is there a way to delete certain addresses out of my address book for my favorite places?

I also am having problems transferring my phonebook to the car's computer, but I have read other posts and think this is a phone issue since I can use the bluetooth fine.

Thanks for your help!

Hi there! Welcome to Nico! What color did you get?

1. From what I've seen, folks with the Nav are not equipped with the compass. Your right on this one.

2. No ding chime for the belt unforunately. I wear it anyway so it doesnt matter to me.

3. The triangle is referring to the gas light. Yes. That is the basic warning light.

4. Someone with Nav can answer this for you. I dont have it

I got the black. I don't really care about the seat belt chime, but I thought I read something about it. I just wanted to make sure my car is working like it is supposed to. No complaints yet. I wish it would have Sirius instead of XM, but that will all change soon.

I am also thinking about getting tint for my car, any advice on that?

Also, does anybody know of a good (cost effective) radar detector? I would prefer it be cordless because the distance from the dash to the nearest power source is pretty far.

I bought a Passport 8500 EX50 for my Altima Coupe. It is not cordlesss. But I ran the cord down the left front A pillar and the fuse box is right below the A pillar. You can tap into a fuse for power there. Works Great!

I would get a Beltronics detector. IMO, spend the money on a high-end model or save your money altogether. If you search around enough you'll find the Vector 995 for around $220 +/- 20. That one is rated very highly, so I picked it up. Drop a little more for the BX65. IME however, radar detectors are not worth it at all, too many cops with instant on, pulsed, or worst = laser speed detection. I kept mine plugged in b/c it has a voltmeter I enjoyed watching, lol, but then I got tired of taking it down and putting it back up being paranoid of some loser meth f--ker breaking a windor for it.

Passport 8500 ftw! It has paid for itself over and over. Yes those are some ways to beat detectors but they do pick up laser and even intermittent radar use because of the deflection off of other cars. Most cops are too lazy too keep turning it on and off anyway.

What does anyone need to watch a volt meter for? Might as well watch the tach

haha I get it geologist=tsigoloeg

That light comes on when you turn your headlights on. Its ambient lighting used to slightly illuminate the cabin.

Laser: you can't pick up bounce-offs from other peoples' cars. Test after test after test has been done showing that for all practical purposes there is no such thing as incidental laser warning. Passive (or active) countermeasures are all you can hope for. Yes, instant-on incidental warning works...if there are enough other drivers around.

Lazy cops: I don't know about where you've lived/driven, but aside from the Atlantic states I've driven all over this fair land of ours, and the state troopers are more than active when it comes to flipping the switch.

Volt meters: back in the day, real cars came with gauges that included volt and ammeters. That way, when real men who knew what they were doing saw the gauge read ZERO on the dash, they pulled over and had their alternator replaced before it stalled them in the left lane of the 405 after running off the battery for the past 50 miles (shorting the battery in the process and adding to the repair bill).

Well I guess that qualifies as a thread hijack...time to wander off to the garage and see if I have a little orange LED by my sunroof controls that I've missed for the past 4 months somehow (or if it's yet one more thing broken on my 'new' car).

Well, I guess my job here is done then.

I am so sorry that I didn't put enough lols and icons in to convey I was just having fun. I'm beside myself thinking I've 'impressed' someone

Yeah, your whole post gave the persona of you having fun, and NOT sounding condescending.

Anyways, I don't really care anymore
