So I "sort of" raced a Z this morning I guess you could say, we were both doing about 55mph, he was in a silver 350z. Unsure of the year, could have been anywhere from an 05-09. He got a jump on me coming up from behind on the left and I floored it right as he was passing so that hurt me some, he was 1 car length ahead of me at 70ish and then I started to pull on him some and we ended at around 90ish when I was within half a car length then I decided to let off since the road started to come to 2 lanes.

The Z appeared to be bone stock from the outside. :\

Yeah, everything in my sig image is what I have, BD Tuner, y-pipe, exhaust, intake, etc... I thought I could take him with all of that. But I think it was a bit skewed since he got a jump on me so I was playing catch up.

Sounds like a sleeper to me. My boy has an '07 Alti sedan that is COMPLETELY reworked but no mods to the exterior other than drop and some brake calipers. If you were going 70+ it looks completely stock, you run up on him thinking he is a wanna be fast and furious and then he smokes you. He actually prefers it that way.

Sorry to say but your statement contradicted itself there. Didn't you mean he'd want me to think he's completely stock coming up on him? I guess I'm a little confused with the later part of what you said.

Big thing is to look at the hood on the 350Zs. the 07-09 Zs have the VQ35HR. There's very little a CVT VQ AC w/ bolt ons will do against a stock one of those, much less if he had any bolt ons (exhaust, x pipe, etc). They're super quick. Many of the Z guys around my town argue that they're faster than the 370s. I haven't researched that claim much.

05-06 350Zs have the VQ35DE "RevUp" motor. They're tweaked a bit from the original 03-04 models. I know that this motor is closest to the VQ AC's configuration. My guess is an 3.5AC with some bolt ons (though suspension mods and wheels and tires would go farther than intake and exhaust in our case) can handle this configuration, though this particular gen of 350Zs are plagued with issues compared to the other models. There are known oil consumption problems with these motors amongst other things.

I know for a fact that we VQ drivers can handle the 03-04 Zs with little if any mods. I raced a dude with a couple mods on his 04 350, but he had big chrome wheels on it and his GF was bigger than my GF at the time , and I took him out from a dig. He was a stick and wasn't the greatest, but even after he got going I was still pulling on him. I had two cars on him at about 65 MPH.

Anyway, moral of the story is, anyone that starts accelerating a couple seconds before you do is probably going to get a huge advantage on you if you are in a similar performance range. I'd rerun it and see how do you

Thanks for the info dude, appreciate it. I actually raced a girl in a 2003 black 350z, she was bone stock and so was I at the time, I think those have like 287hp and same tq as a/c, we were nose to nose the whole way until I let off and just let her pass me because we were going pretty fast on a residential street already. But yeah, I realize those older 350z are defiantly slower. So I'm guessing this guy had a newer model.

I wish I could have gone again but he turned. :\

I've actually thought about my next car being a 370z Nismo... Either that or keeping the Altima and getting some older early 90s 300zx and making it a project car.

I had an 06 350z 6MT and stock vs stock, the Z would have taken the AC easily. But, now with all my upgrades (pretty much what you have plus the Stillen Underdrive Pulley), I'm confident my AC is faster than my Z was. I haven't driven an HR or 370z, but from what I gather as well, they're quite a bit faster. I've seen some reviews of the 370z being under 5 seconds 0 - 60, which I think is out of our territory without forced induction. But, older models, heck yeah!
