Hi. I have Altima 2002, 2.5 L and there is 99000 mileage on it. I bought it like 10 days ago and I have been noticing serious problems even the mechanics can’t know it. My biggest problem is the engine oil consumption, I have to add oil every two days which is something annoying. I went to two mechanics; the first one told me that he couldn’t find any leak or smoking. He tried to figure out the problem but he couldn’t. The second mechanic said, maybe the tap wasn’t tight well which makes the oil flooded by adding much oil. He took off the engine cover to observe the car for two days but he still can’t verify the problem. I have appointment with him on Tuesday. Hopefully, he can fix it. I went to Nissan Agency and they told me you have to change the engine because it is a common problem. What the **** is that?? If it is common problem why do they sell their cars to us??I can’t return the car back anymore. I really need your help guys. I want u to advise me about this situation and how can I fix it?I have another question, what type of oil should I use? Now I’m using 10 W30 which made the oil consumes slowly. Is it good? How many galloons should I fill my car with? And what type of fuel and how many miles can I drive with full fuel?

My best regards

Nissan had a recall on some of the 2.5 engine for that, you might want to contact the closes dealership and see if they will help.

Otherwise your going to need a engine.

Yup, the 2.5L had MAJOR oil consumption issues up until 04. The pre-cat was built to close to the header/block, so all the deposits in the pre-cat would be sucked back up into the engine during the pistons strokes. This destroys the seals in the block, and causes massive oil burn off. If its already leaking oil, then its to late. Massive engine work is inevitable. I would get rid of that thing, FAST.

Have you filed a complaint with the gov.http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/index.cfm

There are hundreds if not thousands of people having or have had this problem. Filing the complaints might get some action? Just a thought. I have the problem (2 quarts per 100 miles) and I filed.

The R3007 campaign to "fix" the catalytic converter issue was a joke. It involved nothing more than extending the heat shield to the bottom of the catalytic converter and reprogramming the ECM. Now the engines are falling apart. Here's a long shot: call the dealer and have them run your VIN# for open campaigns. If the R3007 was never performed and your catalytic converter is shot, Nissan will replace the engine and converter free of charge. If the campaign has been performed, you are on your own. Get rid of the car FAST.
