Hello could anyone help me with an Altima 2000 that is boiling over the antifreeze? I am not sure if it is the thermostat or the fans but i would appreciate an answer from the pros.. Thanks

Welcome to NICO!

It sounds like a thermostat. To test the fans if you think they could be inoperative, apply power fromt he battery directly to the fan motors and see if the turn on. If they turn on, I would replace the thermostat and if the problem still occurs, check your coolant temperature sensor.

i would check your pressure cap. the pressure thats being built up in the cooling system may overexceed the ability of what the cap can take. pressure caps come with a vacuum valve to relieve the pressure and send the hot coolant to a coolant recovery tank. however ur vacuum valve may broken. that could definately cause ur problem.

could be the thermostat if its remaining closed.

u can retard ur boiling point of the coolant by upgrading the psi rating of the pressure cap.

also check to see what ur mixture ratio of antifreeze and water is. a 50/50 mixture is usually recommended.

Thanks for the help guys.. I changed the radiator cap and i am still seeing the boiling so i think its time to change the thermostat because the fans are not spinning when they should but they do work. If anyone could give me any tips on changing the thermostat I would appreciate it??

to remove the thermostat, drain ur coolant system first. make sure the engine is cold. next, remove the retaining bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place. after the housing is removed, u can pull it right out. remember what position it was in so u don't put the new one in backwards.

to put the new one in, first scrape off any leftover gasket material. a puddy knife will do the trick. then put the thermostat in and install the housing and new gasket. tighten the retaining bolts, install the radiator house, and fill the system back up with coolant and u should be good to go.
