As of yet, no. Honestly, I would skip the whole navi system offered by Nissan. It isn't that great and they charge for updates (if you don't want to "find" them). I would suggest getting an aftermarket nav/video unit.

Sorry for the delay in responding. YES, it sure is. It is a fairly easy mod, and is very cheap. About $10 to do the whole mod. You need to install a DPDT switch to break the Parking Brake wire and the VSS wire going to the AV unit on your Altima.

This is a great mod and it works awesome, there are no issues when doing this mod other then when you have your front screen playing the DVD, the Navigation will not work, simply flip the switch, and your DVD will be off, and Nav will be back to normal.

Timmbo -
I am thinking seriously about purchasing this car and I would love to have more details on how to do this mod. Can you provide more details? Sounds cool!

The short and skinny of it can be found here:

All you are doing installing a DPDT switch that will break the VSS wire and the Parking Brake wire going to your AV unit and grounding them. This will allow you to watch videos while in motion (and have the FULL navigation menu while driving).

The thread above is for the Armada, but it is the same thing on the Altima and many other Nissan & Infiniti vehicles.

Why would you want to watch a movie in motion anyway?

Thanks Timmbo. I took a look at seems pretty involved. Have to consider if I am able to do this. Do commercial outfits perform this kind of mod for ya?

Many will, some need to be explained exactly what 2 wires need to be tapped into.

Keep in mind if you are going to do this yourself, it really is not that difficult, you certainly need to consult the FSM for your car, this will show you how to access the back of the AV unit. The FSM also identifies the Parking Brake and VSS wires for you.

Interesting. Thanks for the info Timmbo. Pretty much the same thing you can do with the after market ones as well.

It's only a matter of time before they start incorporating gryos and stuff in all the OEM equipment. Really surprised it's this easy for OEM.

One thing this can't fix though is the laws in your country/state/province. For example, here in NS, it's against the law to have a video in motion in front of the driver while the vehicle is moving. Behind the driver is fine (for passengers).

It is a safety thing though.

Yes, it is illegal here as well, but at a flip of a switch I am back to the Nav screen, and keep in mind, this is not for me THE DRIVER to be watching, this is for my lovely wife and kids to enjoy while we are driving. When we have the video on in the G37, if I am resting my arm on the center console my son that is sitting behind me yells at me to get out of the way.......LOL.

The other cool thing is if you have video or movies on your iPhone/iPod, you can view those as well.

Has there been any Altima owners that did this hack?

Have new 2011 Altima Coupe with full tech package.

Is there a hack to change the color of the display - defaults are Black, blue & Red- to say any jpeg of my choosing?
Not sure if its considered a "wall paper"

I like that it has a hard drive and would like to use it & the USB port to the full potential.
Any other fun things to do with the USB port - other than connect an MP3?

I am not aware of any way to change the color display.
