Does the 2.5 have a history fo blown head gaskets. I have a 2002 Altima SE that has 80K miles on it and the check engine light came on and I have been told that I am leaking coolant into #3 cylinder. I just think that this sounds like a premature failure. This car has always been dealer serviced, never overheated or run hard.

A blown head gasket should not occur under normal operating conditions and I would like to know if there is a history of problems or if there have been tech notices sent out and while under warranty it was not addressed on idea that they haven't had a problem, maybe it will be out or warranty before they do.

The QR25DE engine has a laundry list of recalls however I don't think headgaskets were involved.

There is a recall for that engine, unknown oil consumption. And yes, the head gaskets fail on those alot.

we've replaced at least three or four in the past year and half that I've been working at the dealership, very common. but on the plus side, you're not looking at much money in parts

The QR25 isn't exactly a fantastic motor, and we do see the head gasket fail from time to time.

Also, just FYI, you do not own a 2.5 SE. There is no such animal. There is a 2.5 S, a 2.5 SL, a 3.5 SE, and a 3.5 SL.

ya i had that same problem with my 02 altima 2.5S. It had 104,000 miles and it kept burning anti freeze and the mechanic said it was the head gasket. so i got rid of it.

Today I took my Altima to the dealer to find out why the check engine light is on. Result, Headgasket, AGAIN. This is the third one in 2 years. 1st one $1800, second one under 12 months, dealer covered under warranty. Same for the this one. It was last done last January. It started with about 90,000 miles.Terry

I'd put money on improper head torquing or a warped head/block if it went through two head gaskets in a year. I wouldn't be at all surprised that head surface is warped and nobody at the dealership bothered to check it before reinstalling a new gasket. I love dealerships! $1800?! I'd change a head gasket for that much AND install ARP fasteners AND deck the head. What a shake-down.
