i've read a bit about them being to brittle to bake open but has anyone actually tried it or is it just guessing? i'm thinking about buying a set and using the clear covers to make red/clears or red/red out of my stocks.

To be honest, I wouldn't use an oven. Aftermarket plastics are far less dense than stock parts and also lack quality. You could still do your mod, I just wouldn't heat the whole thing up to pry off the lens. If the whole lens is heated, it makes it even more flimsy and more likely to shater when prying it off the housing.

Maybe use a heat gun around the edge only to losen the lens?

Agreed. You might even just try heating a blade and using that to open the seal.

Um when you heat it it doesnt make it brittle at all. It does make it pliable tho and thats what you want. It is less prone to crack while soft. I know i use a oven on 220 to open all the lights i have done and havent melted one.
