I think it would be less troublesome to just head to the local salvage yard or local parts store and get a alternator.

part that goes out an alternator is usually the brush holder. it gets worn out because of the rotor spinning the whole time the alternator is in use.

Also the rectifier can go bad (diodes go out). on the old alternators the stator leads aren't usually soldered to the rectifier. as for newer alternators, i'd say you might as well buy a new one since they're soldered on there and you won't get the same output if you tried to solder it back.

taking the pulleys off you'll need an impact wrench. while holding the pulley tightly, you'll need to loosen the pulley nut with the impact wrench. NOTE: DO NOT open the rear end of the alternator where the rotor fans might be exposed, which can injuries to your hands.

I had my SR20det Alternator repaired by A guy near me and he did great work. He sandblasted the outer casing and repainted it with the factory rough coating. He replaced everything, not just what was broken and I think he charged me 160 buncks which is 40 less then a new KA24 alt and I didnt have to redrill it, He even repaintd the pulley! Message me for more details
