I recently swapped in an SR20det into my 91 240sx and the alternator was putting out too much voltage. It was around 16.4 volts. I swapped the ka24dohc off the motor that came out of the car and its even putting out more voltage than the other one, around 18 volts. The one I put in, I took to auto zone and had it tested before installing it and it tested fine. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

The use of a voltage regulator could help your problem. I'm not really good with underhood electrical, but I think that is the solution you need.

did autozone test the regulator function as well? they have seperate tests they run, and this might sound stupid and I can't really explain it but do you have an aftermarket steering wheel? if so try unplugging the horn, that one still baffels me but worked on a coule different cars, kinda bugs me taht it worked honestly

your alternator's got the regulators built in. if it's at 18v, it's defective. go back and have them check it over.

Aotozone checked three different things on it though I don't know what each one was. I don't have an aftermarket steering wheel. I will take it off and this time take it to an alternator place to have it tested. Thanks everyone for your input.
