Can anyone advise what is the typical starting output voltage at the battery from the alternator. Secondly, what should be the running voltage after the Q reaches normal operating temperature, and then what voltage output should you expect when you have radio, AC, etc. operating. I have tested this at the battery and from the Cigarette lighter. Typically start voltage is about 14.25, then in operation drops as low as 13.3 - and then I get the Low Battery Charge, Brake and ABS lights on. From Infinity tech., means replace the alternator. Installed a new Hitachi, and it starts at 14.25, after about 5 miles drops to 13.85, but with AC and lights on, can drop as low as 13.3. Outside temp is 80°. Engine VH45DE
Thanks for anyones guidance.

I have Nissan Data Scan to monitor engine function and none of my Q's have ever read lower than 14.0-14.2, even while driving with the AC, lights and stereo running........except when my second 90Q had a bad alternator. After replacing it with an aftermarket alternator the brake light lit up dimly and got brighter under acceleration. This $400 mistake validated this forum's consensus that the Q only likes the expensive OEM alternators.

An aftermarket sound system with an amp and speaker in the trunk creates a large draw on the alternator also.

Mike
So I guess my method of monitoring voltage throught the cigarette lighter with my Fluke is not the best method to chech the output? My mechanics at Nisstech I am pretty sure have that equipment. So wold it be best for me to take it to them when the car is reading a low voltage and see what their diagnostics would read out?

There's nothing wrong with the way you're measuring but the 13.3v is quite low.

Thanks Mike, that's what I thought. My wifes 2007 Chrysler T&C never drops below 14.0v so I thought this suspicious. While we installed a Hitachi Alternator, which is suposedly the OEM for the Q, perhaps it may be the wrong model or just not rebuilt properly.
Enjoy the weekend,
Dan
