I'm wanting to put 2 15 inch subs with a 6000w amp in my 240. What alternator works best for this?

Depends. Are you running capacitors?

Most "6000w" amps won't ever truly deliver that kind of wattage unless you're spending more than your S-chassis is worth. If it's truly a power-hungry unit, you're probably going to need to upgrade to a 260-300A alternator and a second battery (deep-cycle).

I'm not an audio expert, so I'll let others chime in here, but you're going to need to do a LOT more than just an upgraded alternator to support high-end 15's and a big amp.

AZ is right, alternator alone isnt going to get you there, you're dealing with a cap or two and possibly a second battery. I'd consult with a reputable mobile audio store for that portion...

But as far as an alternator to charge it, no the oem alternator wont be able to hang. Popular inexpensive upgrade is to grab an alternator from a Nissan Quest. Quick google search will show you what model years. It"s not 100% drop in, i am running one on my KA. Im at work on my phone but I'll try to link some more info later this weekend if you're having trouble finding it.

Even then, I think that's only a 125a unit.

You would "best" be served with a trailer hitch, trailer and a 10 KW generator towed behind your auto if you seriously want a 6KW amp setup.

Yes. this is a tongue in cheek entry so don't take it as a serious reply.

:woot: Yeah, that's all I know of for the s chassis. It's a fair upgrade over the stock one on the cheap. Ive seen some dB competition cars back in my youth; battery banks, lexan windows, and dynomat for days. The Blazer I'm thinking of had to plug in an external charger to top it all off but he was running 8 subs I think and several amp. For just driving around and listening, i think in these cars at least, you could get PLENTY of good sound from a quality setup with a single 10 like a JL W7 in an enclosed box and quality 500w amp. Those 15s even in an isometric setup are going to need a huge box and don't generally need/want an amp of the wattage OP is asking about.

I realize that's not his question and he's going to do what he's going to do. His question may be better answered on a dedicated mobile audio site where someone knows of a place that rebuilds alternators for higher amperage. All I've got in my repertoire is that Quest upgrade.

Yep. I'd question the rest of the setup, but I suppose a pair of 15s is good for "street cred."

IMO, that's ancient audio theory (and I'm an old guy). Easily stolen, hard to package, hogs up available space, heavy, and will require a lot of other upgrades.
