I am not sure, but I think one puts out more amps than the other. I know that does'nt help, but it's something to look for in the difference. I might be thinking of the 300zx alternator though.

The specs for the 1997 show 125 amps and the 1993 90 amps but if you buy a 1997 alternator from autozone, advance auto etc they give you a 90 per there web sites.

I would strongly recommend getting a OEM Nissan new or remanned alternator. Except for two members (in all the years I've been on this board, we've had several hundred J owners come through) on this forum, aftermarket alternators don't work on the J. They lead to weird electrical and other issues.

I currently have the alt from a 97 after the 94 alt died. Seems to do fine for the most part but I got UDP so it doesnt charge as well at idle.

Always go with OEM Alternators. i have had many 300zx friends with aftermarket ones have weird electrical issues like driver said.

The NA 300zx is a 80AMP and the TT is a 90AMP. J30 is a 90AMP as well. Never have heard of it being 125AMP. Been considering on getting the 94 alt rewound to produce more since I have a decent system.

FYI if you buy the alternator from a nissan dealer it is aroud $60 cheaper then from the Infiniti dealer. At least in Orlando FL

Its true up here too. I get most of my parts from the Nissan only dealer down the street. If I can avoid paying the Infiniti part markup, I will. Ditto for my Acura which uses the same parts as its sister Honda model.

Several years ago but it was just over $200 That was for the 97 I have an autozone alternator on the 95 going on 3 years it is acting up now because of an oil leak constantly dripping into the front. But Autozone warranty is life time.
