Okay, my alternator took a crap on me, and now I am stuck at home. I have searched on here and other forums but all the info seems sketchy. What exactly are the options? I know a rebuild is one, but what about getting a new one from a 88 Pulsar? The ones I have found picture of look the same but have a 4 rib belt instead of 3. Can I just swap the pully? I need any absolutely accurate info asap. Thank you.

Either rebuild it, or I heard that the alternator from the KA motors will work. You just have to modify the top bracket alittle. Your best bet would be to get it rebuilt. It's cheaper than buying a new one.

I know about about the rebuilding, but kinda wanted to just go new if possible. The KA one is a pain to fit and the back bolts touch the oil filter. I have one now.

The pulsar doesnt fit because, the pulsar alternator is on the exhaust side. The KA requires modification to the bracket. So your only option is rebuild.

I dont understand why you dont want to go rebuild, just tell them to replace everything and keep the case. Thats what I did I told them to use everything from a KA but use the housing from the CA. When I got it back it looked brand new, they bead blasted my Alternator so the baby was looking uber shining, all the parts were new even the plug and ground point were new.

Well I never said I was opposed to rebuilding it. I just wanted to know if there was any direct replacement. There is a lot of contradicting information on here.

okay, well I contacted a local rebuilder. It's 75-85 which is reasonable. Now what do I tell them? I looked at a spare ka24e alternator and the internals are different by a lot. So if anybody know for sure what kind of car do I tell them it is from?

Just tell them what it is and you want it rebuilt, that's it. And if they can't do it, go somewhere else.

I'm sorry, but how many times do we have to tell you to take it down there. If you don't like the info that we're giving you, then try and get better info someplace else. You won't though.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you've been told the same information repeatedly and you refuse to believe it.

Take it to the shop, if they have any questions (they shouldn't) then come back here.

rb20 alt fits, but you lose your fancy tightening thingy....and the bolt will be on the back of the top bracket instead of the front, but it works dammit.....it works.
