How big of a job is this? I know you have to do it from below, since the compressor sits right on top of the alt.

Should the tensioner be replaced while it's accessed?

Fired the Q up this a.m. and the whine is getting louder. The "low battery charge" came up several times.

The tedious part is unbolting the compressor so you can move it out of the way. Its not hard, there's just a bunch of bolts on every side of it. Once you do that, it takes barely a few minutes to undo the alternator.

Good idea to have the tensioner at least on hand.

Several good posts on this in the IOM forum, including how to deal with that pesky nut.

Is it possible to remove (move) the compressor without disconnecting the lines?

I hope so, otherwise this is going to be a pita!

BTW - I just looked under the hood and checked - Tyrone, you're right!

The alt is above the compressor.....

You will be aided greatly by reading the previous posts by members who have replaced the alternator.

Check my old threads about getting to the alternator. Check the Idler pulley bearings while you're taking the belts off. Rebuild the alternator instead of buying a new one.

I'm getting an alt and idler pulley from Tyrone. I'll keep the old alt and rebuild it for next time...
