Got the alternator out and had it rebuilt by a good rebuilder who has done other work for me with excellent results. Cost to rebuild completely.....$120. :ylsuper

Re-installation went smoothly....mostly because I was now familiar with what went where. Used gel type super glue to hold that funky nut on the back of the alt....worked great. Connected wires, bolted it up, adjusted belts.....cranked her up. Ding, Ding, Ding...we have a winner. :D Checked voltage output....right on the money.

Also, I did lots of cleaning while the front of the engine was accessable. Did some recon for upcoming projects....valve covers, under plenum hoses, and plenum and TB cleaning. Looks like I need to order a new fan, as I can see some stress cracks showing.

All in all...it was a good day.

so did you just gel the bolt...then screw it on...wait for it to set...then unscrew bolt...put the alternator back on and re-screw... sounds simple if this was the procedure

When you replace the fan you should also remove and check the fan clutch. If it is going out that could spell bad news for your engine. Best to get it replaced if it shows serious wear. Part is expensive though: $131.93 from Joe.

Nat...that sums it up pretty much. Removal took me twice as long as re-install though. I'd say first time probably 4 hrs. I KNOW I could cut that time in half or less if I had to do it again.

Nick...unfortunately that's what I was thinking too. :(
