My brake light and battery light have been on lately, but above 2k rpm they go off, I was told that this was an alternator problem, well today I parked for a bit and went to start the car and it didnt have enough juice to start. I have a spare alternator on my other car, is this probably the problem?, that my alternator is bad and not charging the battery, so it finally pooped out. Also it was at night time and the lights were very dim when I push started the car the whole way home. One last thing is where is the alternator located on a 1989 240sx, and is it interchangeable with the an auto alternator, and any steps I must take when replacing an alternator?

yea definately sounds like the alt is going out

manual-auto trans makes no difference, same engine.

theres alot of stuff in the way so when you take it out, from the bottom might be easiest. it should be pretty straight forward, unplug all connectors going to it. losen the lock bolt preventing you from turning the adjusting screw. then losen the adjusting screw all the way and remove it. The alt should be just on its hinge now, unscrew the hing and it should come right off.

If you have the funds get a new battery also, if the alt hasnt been fully charging the battery it will be weak.

good luck
