Hey all,

I've had my vehicle for a couple of years now and have gone through 2 alternators already. My best guess is that my power steering fluid leak (which I've known about) is somehow leaking into my alternators causing them to go bad. No mechanic shops have bothered to look deeply into it and just tell me to replace everything that could be the issue. The only noticeable leak is that the boots on the steering system are shot and causing the PS fluid to leak/spray out while driving dripping into the alternator over time.

My question is which companies are reputable for a rack and pinion? Detroit axle, rock auto, etc...

Thanks in advance!

PS My vehicle is a Qx4 and I'm a little lost on what to do since the job looks quite pricey.

I have not had to do this on the QX4 -- boots were replaced soon after they tore. But rebuilt racks from the Rack Doctor in SC, worked well and were a good deal for the Toyotas I put them on.

thanks!

One more question pertaining to the alternator if you or anyone knows; after having it replaced, it has been having hard starts like it's not fully charged. The alternator is new and the battery as well.
Any thoughts?
