Im going to give this POS one last shot... im going to try to get the alternator from a sohc i have layin around to mount to the brackets on the ca and see if i can get it to fire and run. If it does... and IF it will boost and run fine. Ill put out the money to get teh freeze plug fixed and ill be in the ca18det community once again. What do you guys know about getting a sohc or dohc alternator to bolt up and work??

Sohc alternator will work, but I really don't recommend it. If you have a ca alternator that just doesn't work, get it rebuilt. I spent about $30 for a rebuild and it works perfectly.

The reason I'm discouraging the sohc thing is because I used to use one. The problem is the threaded bracket thing has to be bent AND the + to the alternator rubs against the oil filter. The rubber cap over it has to stay in place or you will blow a fuse. (I blew 2, big pain).

REBUILD! They replaced the bearings and painted it for me too, so it looks brand new.
