Yes. I put ANOTHER alternator on the Maxima today. That makes this either #5 or #6...I forget exactly.

I'm surprised this one died. Battery and positive cable were both replaced earlier this year.

It's so strange that they keep dying. And it's just a sudden thing after maybe a year. No sign of death-over-time or anything. It's just...one day, it can't charge the battery anymore. These alternators have died over the course 2 or 3 different batteries, so that can't be the cause. And they have of course all been remanufactured parts since you can't get new ones anymore. But even with remans, a 100% failure rate is broken.

my alternator, when it died, just went randomly too.

its the first one I changed, dont know if any others were replaced before I got the car.

Sort of. The Maxima belongs to my younger sister now, so I still do a lot of the work on it and drive it occasionally.

It's the '93. The '04's actually my dad's...I just list it so the other 6th gen guys know I have some experience with them if they have any questions.

I've had the same problems... actually, at one point I even got 2 alternators that were already bad in the box. Installed one and it was bad, took it back and got another but had them test it first and it was also bad. Third time I got lucky and it worked. Those AutoZone remanufactured units definitely seem to be absolute junk.

If you are not using a Nissan alternator, then I would put one in, a majority of the time the best electronic parts like that are factory, and ones from Autozone as mentioned and other aftermarket retailers are much more prone to failure.

That's one of the problems though... you can't get them from Nissan anymore, unless you happen to find some that are left over on the shelf.
