Posted a little while back about my 00 q45 113k miles

was driving and my battery light came on, (i think this means no charge to the bat is being given) car drove for a bit, but didnt make it home, my in dash head unit started to flicker and then the whole car shut down. I got pushed by state patrol off to the side of the road, tried to charge my batt and was able to start the car barely, but it wouldnt shift out of park.

I got the car home, fully charged battery and tested fine, and the shift lock solenoid did disengage, but the battery light stays on and one window wont roll down.

I tested alternator and it seems to be bad so i think ill start there, but im gonna need to post a few more times because I have more probs then just this, like the silly spark plug coil which I will be replacing all 8, but possibly a weak fuel pump as well, car just does not have smooth power.

but first I was wondering if there is any cheaper than oem alternators, and are they worth it, ive also heard I could get my alternator rewound to make it a littel more powerfull

There are a number of places to get a replacement without paying a rediculous amount of money to a dealership. Used - http://www.car-parts.com, NICOclub.comRemanufactured - autozone, napa, etc... new - same car parts stores or other discount online vendors.

I'm not sure about "upgrades".. you'll have to wait for the Q45 experts to chime in... I would suspect that the Q's alternator is the top of the line or near that for the Nissan/Infiniti line.. So I'm guessing you won't find much better from other products. But I could be wrong on that.

Mechanically all alternators are roughly equal except possibly the quality of replacement bearings.

The main variable is the quality of internal electronics in diodes and regulator IC chips. Whether they can stand the heat for extended periods.

Get one from your local AAP or NAPA. Make sure it has a lifetime warranty. If it dies, you get another one for free. My oem alt lasted 7yrs which is horrible and my Advance alternator is still going strong after 5yrs. IF it dies in year 6 or 7, I will be happy because not only did it perform as good as the horrible oem but I get a free one!

It amazes me that with 180k, I am on my original alternator.

Guess my alt fell thru the cracks or was made on a Monday or Friday!! I don't have the igniton coil problem like a lot of the 99-01 though... I'm on original transmission WITHOUT a oil cooler!

Got a Hitachi fo rmine. Good so far. Remanufactured ones often overlook new electronic components.

Or find and fix problems with factory OEM's. Obviously there was some defect with mine. I know my model had a recall for alternators but my VIN wasn't in the recall list.

thanks for the info, ill test again and replace with one from napa or action.

anyone wanna buy an 00 q with 113k? two blown front struts, bad ignition coils, possible bad fuel pump, hood actuators dont keep it open so it falls on ur head unless u use vise grips to keep it open, has dual exhaust with a leak somewhere that sounds like s***, headlights are all cloudy with condensation, but other than that and the 3k that youll have to spend in addition each year to maintain (car is worth 6 or less), and the fact that everyone will just think its a lexus, its a great car!

lol just kidding, sorta, and frustrated
