My S13 SR20DET Blacktop alternator belt squeals until it warms up. I have Greddy Pullies with the Gates K050370 alternator belt. Even if I swap back to the stock pulley, the belt still squeals but not as much.

I'm looking for a sticky alternator belt such as a Goodyear Gatorback belt. This is the only post I could find, post4445091.html?hilit=gatorback#p4445091

Does anybody know of another brand of belt or a Gatorback part #? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

Have you checked the belt to see if it's worn? And are you sure it's the belt, and not the pulley bearing on the alt?

The belt looks great. I've tried using belt dressing and changing the tension on the belt. But, nothing works. I've taken the alternator to be tested and it works fine. I rather swap out the $20 belt than the $100 & up alternator all on the fact of a noisy start up. I don't mind it so much but it wakes up my neighbors. They already have to deal with my exhaust, they don't need some ridiculous high pitched screaming in the morning.

I would always recommend a new belt before replacing the alt :P

Take the belt to an auto parts store (Vato Zone, O'Reilly's, Advance, etc) and get them to match a belt what you have now, but make it a size down. Your belt squeal should go away.

I think I got some Mitsubishi belts or equivalent and been fine.

Pep Boys is the only place here that carries Gatorback belts. O'Reilly's, AutoZone and Napa do not. I hate Pep Boys...
