alternator/belt question

hey guys... i did an alternator job recently on my ka24de and its working well and went in easily but i have just one issue...

when i first start my car it squeals a bit and then cuts off (started after i put in the alternator) and also sometimes after it has been running if i have a really heavy electrical load on (like headlights, heater, wipers, radio, etc) it will squeal until i take some of the load off

i'm guessing the tension on the belt isn't correct (but other suggestions are welcome)... do i need to tighten or loosen the belt?

tighten it up not sure about the load part but tighten it up

Yeah, just tighten it. Mine did the same thing when I changed my water pump. I knew the belts werent bad because I'd just changed them recently...tightened them up and voila. No squeal or loss of power (I may actually need to tighten it a little bit more).
