alternator belt install help, ive searched.....

so ive got the alt in the car but be damned of i can get the belt on. being the *** i am i actually ruined my new alternator trying to get the belt on....dont ask, im a moron...... so while i wait for another F@#$in% alt i have the question, do i need to remove the pulley from the alt. or am i missing a step entirely. no hazing will be needed as i spent all day beating my face against the wall after i realized what i had done.

any help on the belt installation would be great.

sure am, i am just a bit behind. im scrounging now, a bit slower with the need for another alternator, but yeah keep that shiz for me and ill get it in the next week or two. thanks, p

That's the picture that shows it all Paul. To the OP, no need to remove anything, just loosen the idler pulleys one at a time for each belt. Where you may be going wrong, and I didn't see it mentioned in the link, is that you need to Loosen the pulley bolt (labeled loosen in the pic) a turn or two before adjusting the tensioner (adjusting) bolt to move the pulley up and down.

had to lower the idler pulley by the adjustment bolt. i ended up removing the pulley but i think it can be done without taking it off. thanks for the help guys. and i managed to rebuild one working alternator from the two i had. drove the car and it seems fine. glad to have it on the road again. a few more parts from Paul wall and ill have it to factory spec or better

Its best to do with out removing the pulley.Don't tighten them too tight and after a day or two make sure it's the right fit since new belts stretch i had to tighten all mine once more after 2days.
