Alternator and Ground Wire Question

I have a 1994 G20 and have been having a few problems.

My battery (is new) isnt holding charge. I have to jump start it because it doesnt havre enough juice to start the car by itself.

The alternator is new, by the way.

One thing I have noticed was that there is a wire (ground?) near the alternator that is just there (not hooked up to anything). Its black with the looped end. Its in the pic below.

My questions are:

1. Is the wire a ground wire?

2. If its not hooked up to the alternator, will it affect the charging system? What will it do?

3. How do I hook it up? Where does it go? Does it hook up with a normal screw or bolt? Anyone have pics of it?

i would have to say thats ur alternator ground... but i own a 92 sentra and my starter went, while trying to make it turn over i noticed smoke coming from under my hood and realized the alternator wires where melted... come to find out my engine wasnt grounded at all and most if not all of the current was going through the alternator ground, i paid a garage to fix everything and when they did they unhooked my alternator ground im guessing to prevent that in the future its been about 10k miles since then and everything works frine im guessing the alternators mounting is enough of a ground also about the battery it sounds to me like u got the wrong alternator.... hope this helps sorry im not good at forming sentances

ps. before they fixed i was also going through alternators like crazy like 1 every month
