well i just had my alternator replaced 3 weeks ago because my car died on the side of the road.. power was gone headlights were dim and the car was dead. new alternator and car ran great. till today. i went to start it... key goes in and everything turns on, then i go to ignition. everything dies instantly as if the battery is disconnected. i jump it it runs then dies if i turn my headlights on... CAN MY NEW ALTERNATOR BE BAD!!??

it does have some oil on it from an oil leak, but surely this cant cause it to go bad like this???? im gonna try and replace the battery tomorrow, but i dont think thats the issue because even a dead battery wont cause the car to die while its running....

Once it's jumped and running, test the voltage at the battery posts with a multimeter. If it reads less that about 14 volts then it's not charging, which could mean the alternator died, or the maybe the wiring is loose at the alternator or battery.

my turbo timer has a voltmeter built into it, it read 14.4 constant which is why i was confused as to why the car kept turning off.. i thought if the battery was dead thr car would still run if i jumped it but the car wants to die if i dont pedal the gas

Repeated alternator problems can be a result of a power steering leak, so I was told. Check that...
