What are the options to use tiresize like 235/45-17 or 225/55-17.The selection is much better on these tires than standard 225/50-17. The rim is I believe 7" wide. Thanks.

Be careful of the weight rating on the tires you pick. I have a '94Q and a '00 I30t, both with 17" rims. I went to the Continental SportContact 245/45/17 on my Q, and the ride was not too good. The 235/45/17 diameter is a little small (You need 26"). I went back to the 225/50/17, in a Nitto, but don't like the noise. I think I might try the Bridgestome RE970? in the 245/45/17, the next go-around, unless I find some chrome '02 Q 18" rims on eBay.

245/50/17 is the only way to go... IMO.

I still have 16's. I was referring our new friend to the popular sizes run by our 17" Q brethren. :D

I think AZhitman means 255/45-17, or I can't read the charts at tire rack.

255/45/17 on a 7" wide rim????? Is that possible? Will it fit in the front fender well? I don't have a clue, but I would like to know.

Best on at least an 8" or 8.5" rim.

That's why all the G35 and even Q45 take offs don't really make much sense - they're all too narrow. Hence the forged rear 300ZXTT (16" x 8.5") is the preferred factory wheel for first generation Q45s.

There are after market forged wheels in 17", but you will have to pay commensurate with what you get.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

Does anyone know the original tire size on the '97 touring? I know the dealer installed new tire prior to my purchasing the car. The size is 215/55/16. Is this the original size? They've always seemed sort of small for the car IMO.

The original tire size for the 16" rim is 215/65 16, that is what I've got on my car right now. I have the Potenza RE920's I think they are called, VR rated. They feel very narrow to me, I have set of 17x7 rims that I'm going to finally get mounted on the car end of this month. Trying to decide on tires, going to go with 245 as I figure that is as big as I can go on the 7" width.

Stock tire for q45t is 215/60R16 94V. 16x7 rim.I've installed wider tires 245/55R16 and feel very good :) I was going to put 255/45 but glad I didn't - looks like it wouldn't fit in front.

I have placed an order with Discount Tire for ContiExtremes 245/45-17. The out-the-door price is reasonable $112 per tire including mounting, lifetime balancing, and road hazard warranty. They assured me that it is OK to mount this size tire on an OEM 17" wheel since it is 7.5" wide.

Including mounting and balancing makes it a pretty darn good deal, I would think! :)

That is pretty good, I didn't even really consider the Continentals. I think the stock size is 65 series, at least that was what was stock on my 97' Q45t.

Stock actually 60 series. Someone put wrong size on your q. With 215 tread width it will yeild +0.4 in sidewall = more flex and 3.2% slower speedo reading (good prerequisite for higher tickets :) )

Continentals are pretty good. Sticky in dry and wet and very quiet for ultra-high performance. We've had thunderstorms lately so I had chance to see the difference.

The 99-01 Q45t rim is 17X7.5. The Identical looking 00-01 I30t rim is 17X7. I purchased a set of Cooper Lifeliner SLE's at the end of March. They are 225/50VR17 94V with an UTQG of 360 A A. The out the door price was $508 and change. What sold me was the road hazard warranty that covered the sidewall as well as the tread. The guys at the store said that they didn't know how long Cooper Tire would continue sell the hazard warranty including the sidewalls but about three weeks ago a co-worker purchased a set of Coopers for his 01 GMC Sierra. Sidewall road hazard coverage still in effect. The quotes that I got for the OEM spec Bridgstone RE92's were in my opinion ridiculous. And in that size the choices are limited. I also went to the Tire Rack, Discount Tire, Whalen Tire, etc. But I went with a local Cooper Tire franchise for the obvious convenience reasons instead of the mail order/internet sites. And always remember to shop around. The stores that handle Cooper tires quotes for the same tire ranged from about 100 dollars for the set.

An update on the new Continentals. Got them installed today. They fit an OEM rim just fine. The tire is quiet and responsive. I like it so far...

TgduMg, I understand from Q45Tech, that the minimum rating for the Q45 is 95V. I had a set of Continentals 235/45/17 and 245/45/17 (used) on my '94 Q45. I did not experience any problems, but someone else might. The outer sidewall was extremely strong, while the inner sidewall was EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE AND LIGHT. This concerned me, since the Q is prety tough on the inner sidewalls on the front.

I put 2 sets of used Bridgestone RE92's in the 225/50/17, and really liked the ride, compared to the Continentals. I settled with the NITTO NT-450 ($114 each). They are a 94V, I think, and have a uni-directional tread. Hard tire compound, and have gone 22,000 miles so far, and I expect another 25,000 or so. The tires make a little noise, but I have heard all unidirectional tires "sing" There is a lot of talk about the Kuhmo tires (Do a search on the forums for these). Compared to the guys spending $550 to $600 a set, and getting 15,000 miles out of them, I think I can live with the noise of the NITTO's (And they look cool). My next set will be probably the Yokohama ES100's.

I have the Bridgestones on my wife's I30t.

We all need to set up a stock size [15,16,17] vs brand braking test to see how the various brands stop 125-150 feet and 140-175 feet wet from 60 mph................really should do a 80 mph test as many tires fade 3/4 of the way thru from heat build up in the 3-4 seconds.

"Hard tire compound, and have gone 22,000 miles so far, and I expect another 25,000 or so."........remind me to never let you get too close behind me as what's in my trunk is more valuable than the car.

Jeff:No tire lasts 50,000 miles. They may still look good after that time but teh carcass will be shreds even on cars with good internal tire construction.

And those tend to be performance tires with softer treads anyway.

99Q45tvl:

245-45 R17's are indeed a good size on a Q, have run that size on 2 Q's now.

Very, very, true!!!

On my wife's 1997 Acura 2.2CL, last year, after five years, we still had about 5/32's of tread left on original Michelin MXV Plus tires (my wife is a low mileage driver! :) ) But when I went in to get a flat fixed, I noticed that there were minute, visible, micro-cracks in the rubber inside the tread region in all four tires. And this is the car that my wife and five year old son are in!

I plunked down the money for four new tires in a hearbeat. Did not get the tires I wanted (that tire place only had a few selections, so I ended up with Goodyear RSA's), but I felt it was an urgent need - I did not want my family going one more mile in those older tires!

Tires are still good, until you start seeing steel, right?:D Here is my tires, after 22,000 miles. Remember, I live in Alabama, and 21,500 of those miles are on a blacktop, that has not seen the hot of summer, yet. I bought the tires in January.
