So my atlernater belt breaks while I'm driving in this BFE town at 25mph. So I send the car to this small town mechanic. He shows me one of me bolts holding the alternater on is sticking out. Upon further inspection he tells me the bolt is broken from the threads. How big a deal is this repair?

All belts and bad pulley bearings should be replaced at once at first sign of advanced wear or impending failure.

Call IoS and get the parts shipped overnight. Give them your VIN and specifiy you have active.

How is the active suspension? ATF? PS?

Your unfortunate predicament is a direct result of maintenance deferred too long.

For access the alternator is going to need to be removed, a hole drilled through the center of the broken stud, and an easy-out bit will be used to remove the stud. Not a big deal to R&R a broken bolt but in the Q's case you need to pay 4-6 hours labor to have the alternator removed and reinstalled. I'm not familiar with the active components but having to work around the extra lines has got to put you near the 6 hour mark for this job.

What all do you think will have to be pulled to gain access to the effected threads?

It might have just been a bearing gone bad suddenly.

I think there is a post on replacing that bolt if it is the bracket bolt, but it might be in IOM. Bugger to get to.
