I have a 2008 m35. I have alternate voice commands enabled. The manual implies there are a lot more voice commands but the display in my car doesn't seem to agree with that. For example, the car's listing of commands only shows 2 climate control commands (on and off). While the manual shows that you can do temperature.

The car does not recognize the voice command temperature so I'm wondering if I'm missing something here.

In mine (2003) I say "temperature 72 degrees" It then puts it at that temp... you need to say it clearly. If you have not "programmed" the voice recognition system you should do that NOW. It works much better after

Nope... you only have limited commands (unless you are in Canada). They dumbed them down for 2008 and I let customer service know I was very unhappy with that. My manual only show climate on and off just like the system (unless you look in the Canadian section). They really screwed this up.

When I got my F50 and showed the voice command to my 16yr old bro. He said wow. Then I made a command and said "Eject front passenger". I saw my brother clinch and held the sissy bar, looked at my face. That was priceless.

How do you go about " programming" your voice commands?

Thanks, CD

In other settings, you can enabled alternate commands. It will tell you to repeat all the commands for learning. However, as someone above posted, they apparently dumb them down. Like the other poster, the only command it allows me to learn for climate control is on and off.

So commands like specific temperature or specific radio stations are not possible.

Yes he's right...

They took away commands from the 08 M - saying it was too complicated for most buyers,, yeah right. They want you to buy the 09M - which will come with the 4 cameras and all the navi commands.

I heard from a dealer that the 08 voice commands for US cars are simplified too. I wonder if someone has already figured out a way (hack?) to gain access to the expanded commands?

By chance did you get the owner's manual addendum with your car? I also heard from the dealer that before a certain build-date a bunch of cars needed this addendum which was swapped out 'at the dock' before delivery to the dealership but a lot of time times the cars were delivered without the additional documentation.

This is all hearsay, but it did come from a salesman at a dealership...
