Is there anything stopping me from mounting my MAF sensor inbetween the intercooler and TB? My only concerns would be weather or not it would leak or crack under boost.

is there any reason why u want to do this? bov or something? but i bet it wouldnt work, since a lot more air is flowing through that pipe compared to at the intake`

Its called a blow through system where your not ejecting metered air with a BOV. Its been done, it can work just fine. Look it up on FA.

blow thru maf is great. it may even reduce the air restricion created by the small maf, because its pressureized air.

but tuning with safc etc is reccomended, because the intake air temp will be different. (probably hotter) and the maf is not used to measuring pressurized air.

dont forget to mention the trace ammounts of oil present in post-turbo air.

Assuming the response of the MAF is fast enough (dynamically), I think it should be OK. Ahhh, Cyberkreig is right. The oil will mess up the MAF. Maybe temperature too. Oh well, try it J-spec, and let us know how it works.

ok, i guess ill make my car the guiny pig to find out how well it really works. I got a new turbo so im not too worried about oil in the system and im placing it after the intercooler so its not too hot. Im doing this also because my SR came with no piping whatsoever so i can make everything custom.

When you gonna do this? I was going to also try it and make a post about it. If you have access to a dyno, try and do a before and after.

My car didnt come with ANY stock piping, so i dont think im going to go throught the trouble and wasted money of doing 2 setups. I'm just going to stick with the blowthrough system because i have heard lots of good things about it. Its not going to happen until this winter probably.

Jspec I was looking through some of my 240 pics I have saved from the web and I came across a pic of a turbo KA with the MAF in the pipe between intercooler and TB

I am pretty sure thats a guy who posts on fresh alloy. They have discussed this subject in depth over there. Might be worth researching before experimentation.

Although I own a CA18DET S13, but I did this (blowthru MAF) 2 weeks ago and I would recommend everyone to do this modification.

I now have full boost much sooner than before, the car sounds different and allot of HP gain! The down side is : I had fuelcut much sooner and at any time of the day @ 10lbs. Now with the HKS FCD @ 14lbs, WOWWW, I have wheelspin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. I can breaklose the rear tires at will.

Hope this helps a bit.

1fast200 -- Do you have an aftermarket oil catch tank or breather filter? Have you checked the MAF sensor & housing for oilbuildup?

No aftermarket oil catch tank. I use breather filters to the atmos. No oilbuildup on MAF. Try and see/feel for yourself :D
