Hey guys I'm a total noob to cars and I'm having a problem with my altenator belt squeling. I looked in the manual and found where it was and felt it...it is kinda loose. Now I was told I should tighten it using a breaker bar..I'm not sure waht a breaker bar is. And do I have to get at the altenator from under the car or can I get access from above? If anyone can give me a step by step moron version of how I can do this I would really appreciate it. BTW I'm sure its the altenator belt cuz when I use the fan or back defrost the belt goes crazy...if that is a symptom of another problem plz tell me...thanks.

the alternator is held on by 3 bolts 2 on top and 1 on the bottom. the alternator pivots on the bottom one. one on the top holds it on and the other holds its position this is the one you need to losen.you may have to loosen the other one also. the move the alternator over to where you want it and tighten the positioning bolt.

So all I have to do is loosen the bottom bolt and pivot it until it is tight then tighten the bolt? What about this breaker bar I always hear about? And that means I have to get at it from the bottom huh? Sorry bout all the questions I just wanna be sure.

loosen the 2 bolts facing the front of the car. then tighten the one bolt coming from the side till you can only roll the belt side ways, right now if the belt is loose you can probably roll it almost all the way over and then some.then tighten the other 2 back up.
