I think my alt. is crapping out. It's showing 13.1 volts at idle with no load. Cruising it's 13.0-13.1 volts. When the electric fan kicks on it drops to 12.8-12.9 volts. Battery is a brand new Optima.

Is there a direct replacement from another Nissan?

yes yes...i'm aware of the pulsar with ca18de.....but is the alt the same..since it's fwd set up?

I found a thread a little while ago that said there were no alt options and to get it rebuilt......if a ca18de alt. will work..then that will make life much easier. Can anyone confirm for sure?

damn it, no i cant remember if i ended up replacing mine.. lol.

go buy one, try it out, and if it doesnt work, take it back.

i remember the tool behind the counter trying to figure out the ground lead on mine, off the 180sx, to the conventional 88 pulsar's, the only solution is to try it i guess.

check the connections on the alternator..i had the same problem except my voltage was in the 12's and 11's. i had a really bad corroded wire on the alternator. now its 14v at idle, and with the fan, lights, walbro, and 5 gauges the lowest it goes is like 13.4v

cost me 80 bucks for a stock rebuild and 100 for extra power at a local shop

took them a hour or two IIRC. it was real fast right after I first did my swap.

I have a similar issue. Voltage starts at around 13.5-13.8 and decreases pretty quickly down to 13.1-13.2 without fans turning on. Once my FAL fans kick in (19amps) the voltage drops to 12.7 - 12.9. An it gets worse during the night with the lights on.

Have tested 2 CA alts, original rebuilt and a spare bought here (supposedly rebuilt) without much progress.

Also worked some more ground cables and even and extra positive from alt to battery to improve charging.

Improved only a bit lately after fiddling with the fan controller. Set them to turn on at a higher temp but does get scary to see the needle move slightly pass the middle of the gauge.

Don't know if the shops here can rebuild mine to make it give more power, and wouldn't know where to start checking bad wiring.
