Welp, the alternator died last night on the way to a friends house... nothing like seeing every get out of your way because they think your a cop with the strobes going. I lost brakes for part of the interstate, lost headlights a few times, car kept on surging then falling revs, and worst of all.... I couldn't use my blinkers to signal a lane change because every time I did, I lost lights and revs!!! AHHHHH

Happened to me too. My dash looked like a Christmas tree before finally dying on the side of the road. I drove like six miles with barely any headlights, I was stuck with no good place to pull over.

Puhleaazzee get an OE alternator, not a PepZoneVance one.

Be sure to replace battery when you replace alternator as you have probably destroyed it and it will tke oput a new alternator........only Nissan remanned alternators will take the stress for long.

When I replaced the alternator, I didn't change the battery. Within a week I had to replace the battery.

Kind of on the same subject.

Is there any problem with using Deep-Cycle batteries in a car? I have noticed that in the description of the Optima Yellow/Red Top batteries that they say that they are deep cycle. Does it make a difference whether I use a standard battery or a deep-cycle one?

Be sure you put the battery on a charger before installing it or after replacing the alternator. I didnt do that when I first replaced my battery, and it was dead in a few days. Got another, charged it for 20 hours, installed it, works like a charm.

I'm using a $40 EverStart. 750CCA 560CA (I think). The one Wal-Mart says is for the Q has the terminals in the wrong place, so I grabbed a different one and used a plastic height adapter.

Optima seems to be the preferred brand.

use the optima red top.

the advantage of a deep cycle battery is that you can deeply discharge and recharge it. its advantage would be, for example, a race car with no alternator.

deeply discharging a normal car battery usually kills it.

once a deep cycle battery is deeply discharged, it needs to be trickle charged back to life.

you can use the yellow top in a normal car, but the deep cycling is of little advantage.

red top is a starting battery, yellow top is a deep cycle battery.

deep cycle batteries are designed to provide a continuous current, and have the capability to be deeply discharged. deeply discharging a standard car battery will kill it.

the red top provides a burst of power, when starting you car, for instance.

you can use both, but the red top is more appropriate for automotive use.

the optima batteries can be mounted in any position, dont leak, are vibration resistant, and dont spew hydrogen gas.

Good, I'm glad I made the right decision.

Now I need too mount it in the trunk, and I'll be all set

optimas make trunk mounting easy. they dont need a battery box, and vent tube because they are completely sealed.

you shouldnt get the terminal corrosion either, because the acid wont climb the positive post.
