the bat wire on my alternator came off the other day and the screw it was on is stripped so i took apart the alt. and put in a new bolt. when i put it all back togeather the alt. fuse popped. i checked for any shorts and i can't find anything. evertime i put a new fuse on it i get a blue spark and a blown fuse. the plastic washer for the bat wire is the only thing i can think of but it's fine. i put the volt testor on the two terminals where the fuse should be and i'm getting 11.9 volts. i did the same thing on my buddys 240 and he has 10. something and no blue spark.i don't just wanna keep trying new fuses b/c there 15$ a pop at nissan and i can't find them anywhere else.thanks for any help you can give~ben

sorry for repost i accidently put this in the KA forum

unhook you main lead to the alt and unplug the connector to it. Take an ohm meter and measure for continuity from the bat lead to the body of the alt. If you have continuity you have a short in the alt.

yes unless you can find the short and repair it. I am thinking the inside of where your batt bolt comes through.

disconnect the battery lead[the one that was stripped] unplug the grey connector plugged into it. Then set your multimeter on Ohms. lowest setting. Place your red lead on the battery lead[ the one that was stripped] and place your black lead on the body of the alternator. If you meter registers you have a direct short to ground[ the body of the alternator] Your meter should stay on infinite[ I ]
