alt. dosnt charge at 14.5v untill i reach 3500rpm

my alternator(sp) will not show 14.5v or 14v once it is started, i need to rev it to 3500rpm to get any effect.

what the problem? belt to loose?

13.2-13.8 vdc is good.

no, its closer to 12ish and thats with no accessories turned on.the dash lights and headlights are dim until i put it past 3500rpm once and it seem to stay for a few min.

get it tested at autozone or something. sounds like it may be bad.

check the small ground lug on the back side of the altenator case.
