How tight should the belt be? and how would i go about tightening it?

there is a tension located right above the alternator that you can use to tighten the belt. The belt shoul dhave no slack at all in it.

its hard to get at, would you mind giveing me a better discription of the tensor.

it is looser than my other belts and thats why i think i only get 14v at 3k PRM

just above and in front of the alt. you will see a little bracket like thing that has two bolts in it. if you are at the front bumper, one of the bolts is pointing at you and the other is pointing left (passenger side).

Loosen the one that is pointed at you but do not remove. Then tighten the one that is pointing to the side. As you do this check the belt for tightness.

To check for tightness, push down firm on the belt on its longest stretch between pulleys (it should be the stretch on top). Stop tighening that bolt when the travel of your push is about 1/2 inch. Now tighten that bolt that is pointed at you.

It is important not to over tighten the belt because that extra stress will cause the alt. bearing to fail quickly.
