ALPS remote help

I have an ALPS remote lock/unlock. A friend has the exact same remote only his starts the car as well. (by pressing the lock button 3 times?)The dealer wants $450. to add this feature to mine!! (Won't happen.) Can I add this feature myself?

First of all, what are you driving? Make, year, etc.Secondly, I have yet to hear of any vehicle that comes factory equiped with a remote start.They are an after market 'gadget". Your friend probably had his installed at some point after he bought it, or else it was already installed by the previous owner.I have remote starters in all 3 of my cars by the way, but they were all after market installs. $450.00 is about right by the way.

I have a 2005 Pathfinder, my friend has a 2006. We both bought "new" from separate dealers, and both were already in the vehicles when we went for a test drive. The remotes are exact, ALPS part #28268EA. I've surfed for hours trying to find instructions.
