Has anyone heard anything about the Alpine SPX-17 pro? Are these speakers worth $500 for the 2 door speakers, tweeters, and crossovers?

What about the Alpine SPX-17 Ref?

Any info you guys can give me on these would be appreciated, thanks.

Personally, I have never heard them, but I have seen some favorable reviews (I've heard that the tweet is excellent, but the midbass can be a bit lacking). The reviews are fairly limited (as it doesn't appear that many people have bought them). To be honest, though, at that price you are nearing what are highly regarded as some of the best comps available, the Rainbow Audio Germanium line:

Check out the specs on the CS 265.25

Most reviews I've seen of those drivers say that might be the best tweet in a component set. I have some rainbow mids in my doors and they perform very well (but after hearing my sub I want better - it's an illness I tell you). Also, I've seen used sets of those sell for under $300 shipped - which might be an option that is significantly cheaper. If you're interested in only buying new, shoot me an email (should be in my profile) and I can give you the contact info for my car audio dealer (he's an authorized retailer of Rainbow) so you can get a hold of him and discuss costs.

Which Rainbow speakers are you talking about. And are those made in Germany. I don't want to get stuck in the same department as you if I blow one. I don't want to haft to wait a month to get my speakers back from Germany. There site is in German. hahaha

Yea all the reviews I read about the Alpine are really good, but there arnt that many because I guess they are pretty new. I also read alot of good reviews on the rainbow speakers. But if there are produced in Germany, I don't want them.

Broadfield, have you heard the Alpine components.

It might also be nice to be bumping all Alpine type X. Except they dont make type x 6X9's yet.

But I am open to suggestions. thanks
