Is it possible to keep your factory amps & speakers and just change the head unit? I have an Alpine iva-c800 that I would like to use. I hear that there is an adaptor that goes between the head and the factor harness to keep the signal levels the same. Does such a thing exist or will I have to change all the amps & speakers?

Please help -Jay.

Yes, it's possible but you'll need an antenna adapter cable and stereo wiring adapter.

Thanks, but do I need to buy both of the adapters or just one?

I was just concerned that the aftermarket unit couldn't run the Bose amps.

You need to buy both. I would check if the alpine headunit would fit, though. That way you don't have to buy anything. Don't worry about your amp. It should be alright because after all it only amplifies the signal it receives from your headunit.

On a <bose> system where all speakers have built in pre-amps teh alpine head shouldnt be able to push teh speakers.

I owned many Q's over teh years and thet system is a all or nothign swap in my experience.

Your head unit will be pretty much usless in terms of sound quality cause what the adapter does is it takes out your power from you head unit and just converts into a signal. Only problem is that sometimes these adapters don't work so well and then...>BOOM, there goes your amps.

I would suggest bypassing your amps and run your components off your alpine, it will sound much better IMHO.

If you want to keep your stock speaker you need to do an amp bypass, there's no way around it. I believe i heard it from Sound Domain. Bose design their system so no one would screw around with it, ex. aftermarket deck & stock speakers. and if so they wanted you to replace the whole system.

my advise to you is to get some aftermarket component speakers. you can get some really good one's on ebay for dirty cheap, Arc Audio, Infinity, Focals Polyflex, etc. BOSE also design their speaker to work hand and hand with the headunit. if you swap it around,IMO, it would probably sound really crappy.

I was afraid I would have to swap out the speakers. I didn't want to but it seems that I don't have a choice. Thanks for the help!!

Well, you won't HAVE to get new speakers, but bypassing the amps are pretty much necessary.

The stock speakers will work, so try them first to see what a diff. just the head unit makes. If you still aren't satisfied, then go out and spend the money on some aftermarket speakers!

So just find the neg and pos lead from the speakers and run wire to my new head? Or is it more involved?

Well...thats half of it...just alittle more to it. you'll need to crimp power wire, in most case its yellow. ACC wire (I believe its Red on the Q's), and the speaker outputs. if you have the service manual you can find out the exact colors on the back.

I'm away from my car for the day, so just how many terminals are on the Q's speakers? Neg, Pos, PWR? Or more. I thought the current from the two wire hook up(neg & pos) was enough to power a non amped speaker.

There's now two terminals for the speakers. and yea...you need to crimp neg & pos wires for the speakers. The power wire and the ACC is for the headunit.
