While working with about 6 guys on my friend's turbocharged LS integra. We were putting the transmission back on and I was under the engine trying to do the micro-management portion of the alignment process. The jack lost pressure and began to drop onto me. The engine was only on one engine mount. Luckily it wasn't the one that I was under. The thing came crashing down on me. My first reaction was to roll out of the way and let it blow up, but then I remembered that this was a $7000 engine. So I threw up my hands and held up all 450lbs as it was about 3 inches from my eyeballs.

At that point I began to scream for them to get another jack under there and lift the damned thing. I told them that if I don't get to see my girlfriend before she gets back from Boston, I was going to haunt all of them and make their lives a living hell. I felt my arms about to break and my shoulder's being crushed into the concrete. They eventually got the jack under and lifted the engine back up before I gave out. Adrenaline is one crazy mofo, mon ami.

Yeah, but this is my friend's pride and joy. His life's work. We're both barely barely 18. Every penny he has was put into this thing. I don't know, I tend to put others before me.

Oh and just to put this into perspective. I'm 5'10" and 135lbs. I can bench press 160lbs... but this is almost 3x that weight.

Bench pressing and holding up are two different things. I've held up a ka all by myself before...getting it up there would be a different story.

Glad you're alright...I would have been seriously pissed if you would have let that thing hurt you.

Two of my friends got trapped under a car when we were in high school. The morons decided to use the scissor jacks that come with the cars to hold the car up. Apparently, the jacks kinda bent sideways and ut the car down on my friends' chests. Nither were hurt as the jacks were still supporting a lot of the weight, but they were stuck there for about 5 minutes before someone realized what had happened to them and got them out.

I had my head under a hood once to help a co-worker figure out why her car wouldn't start. As I'm standing there, for some reason, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a very subtle movement. I pulled my head out and the next thing I knew, the hood slammed shut. I did not consciously feel there was a threat, but I did notice something. To this day, I have no idea why I pulled my head out. And if I didn't, well...OW!

Glad all is well.

Had a jack fail on my 68 back in the day, fortunately I'm thin, but it compressed me pretty good until my buddy could retrieve another jack.

Thank God the wheel was under the frame rail, as theat was the only thing between the car and the floor. Bent the piss outta the rim, but saved my life.

BTW, it was a 15X7 Cragar SS. If it had been a skinnier wheel, no more HITMAN.

Yeah I'm not sure how you would secure a transmission when you constantly need to raise/lower the damned thing.

Now that I think of it, I was pretty stupid for holding it up. I should've let that thing explode. My woman is pissed because I almost killed myself and she doesn't want that.

Whats done is done. You're alright, thats really all that matters. The engine being in one piece still is a plus, but your life is way more important.

kinda reminds me of when I was like 11 or 12 and helping my uncle do work on this '67 3/4 ton Ford truck while it was up. well, we had it on the jack lowering it back down, the damn thing decides to start rolling back at about like 5 miles an hour or so when we drop it, so I decide I'm gonna run around to the back and stop it. While behind the truck, I decide it was a bad idea and keep running. My uncle jumped in it and nailed the brakes and stopped it. If I hadn't done that, we'd have been working on it in the backyard being as he woulda just let it keep rolling....

man, I'm an idiot.
