Ladies & gents,

Strange thing happened about an hour ago, my 02 Q45 (sport w/46K) started up but had a strange rumble and then went away. I let it run for a couple minutes and tried it again and it clickkkkkkkkkk, and then started up, but barely.

My battery has been changed about a year ago. My main concern was that odd rumbling, and then to normal.

Do you think it's my starter?

Where did the noise originate? How loud? Get more specific on sound, location, volume. When you state it barely started did it barely crank or have to crank for a long period of time? Starters will click loudly if there is low power from the battery.

Got it, next time I will keep the title to the point.

Well, I've taken my car in to have the entire electrical checked out and it's totally fine. The car started up without any issues and right now it seems as if it never had an issue?

If anything they guessed that it could be an intermittent starter problem?

So, I guess I'm good for now?

sounds like a starter problem, possibly the starter solenoid is stuck open, and not retracting after the engine was started? if the charging system and battery is working properly...

there is a one-way bearing in most starters, so it shouldn't have harmed the starter too much. if this is the case it might be tough to diagnose. unless it happens frequently, or the starter can be removed and checked.

this happened to a mr2 recently that i worked on. i pulled the starter apart and the solenoid slider mechanism assy. was sticking because the cylinder walls were worn. i cleaned and lubed it up, and tested it and it still got stuck even with light pressure. so it needed to be replaced. it had over 220k miles.
