Went and looked at a 92 black 240 vert today. Runs good but has issues. He was asking 1800. Basically looks exactly like mine but better paint. has about 20k more miles. The rear glass is no longer transparent and has an orange build up on it like rust. The interior panels are all peeled away and the A/C makes noise. Needs serious tuning as it pings on light to moderate accel.

I ultimatly passed on the deal. He was clear he wouldnt take 1500 since he already had 2 offers and turned them down. Body other then a couple dings is in great shape. He says he is the second owner. Car has been in this area since new. I couldnt believe he still had the boot.

Looking for opinions on this car based on what I have stated.

Still a deal if you ask me. Of course I paid more for less which is my rational. 3k for one with no a/c, no radio/antenna, moldy interior, leaking top, fairly smashed up bumpers, leaking gas, rough idle, various missing and broken pieces. And my favorite, 3 differnt tire brands, all four tires being right side directionals.

Take him $1600 cash and say this is my final offer. Did you have cash when you offered him 1500? When they see the money it's more persuasive.

I didnt offer him $1500. He stated he had 2 prior offers for 15 and turned them down. Yes I had over his asking on me. I told him I would throw 16 his way but the wife wanted to look at a white one in the area goin for 2100. We didnt get to that one before it sold. I did way in the fact I paid 1600 for mine in a wrecked state with a salvage title. However the fact mine had been completely refurbished before it was wrecked also weighed in.

Sounds like a very fair deal to me. It's got some issues.. if it didn't it would be a $3k car. My biggest concern would be the powertrain, but since your a mechanic, you'd know better than most whether it's just a minor tune up issue or something worse.

The window may be salvagable, but it's not too bad to replace if it's shot.

If the A/C makes noise.. that's rare... most 'vert didn't get A/C. For good reason I think..

The boot itself is worth as much as $200.

Really the only thing I'm worried about is the interior.. you say panels are peeled away.. Do you mean the inserts on the door panels.. or the whole panels? Do a door chop or swap and cure that.

I don't think you can go wrong for $1600 - $1700 on that car. Get those issues worked out and you should be able to get $3000 by next spring... or keep it!

Keep us updated.

Its ultimatly the wifes decision on this. It will be her car. She liked mine so much when I got it on the road she wanted to take it from me. When I converted it to a stick she hated it. So this one was to be hers. No mods ,no alterations of any kind. She likes her cars as plain jane as you get. She however does not want to dump money into a builder. I dont really want to either as mine is still in build mode. Dont really need any more project cars. Have 2 already. So I think I am passing on it.

No ricer noob work from me its her car. She want to add pink pinstripes as she thinks they contrast well against the red paint as well as adding a pink steering wheel cover......

J/K

No shes not into cars that way. If anything it MAY get a couple cosmetic appeal things but nothing drastic .Car will remain virtually stock. No performance mods at all.

Couple more pics from the add.
