Hi all,

I'm almost a member, but not yet!
I've been debating for several weeks if I should purchase a new vehicle.
Well today I decided to start shopping around and after visiting 3 dealerships none of them have a 3.5SR in stock!!
I'll continue browsing around but I may have to check out the 2.5 and test drive the 3.5 sedan and put the pieces together that way =(.
Anyways, its still up in the air, but I will have to make my decision soon since my RX8 popped up with the engine light recently. I will also need a new timing belt, brakes, rotors, and coolant light pops up @ 80+mph! 7 years later and 120k miles, everyone is telling me I'm due for a new car!

Oh, I have a question for you guys.
I was told by the sales dept that I shouldn't inform them that I received a reman'd engine @ 60k miles.
Apparently it loses value rather than gain. Is this true?

I really did get a re manufactured engine @ 60k miles and reman transmission @ 30k miles.
The thing is, when I informed the guy over the phone, he advised me not to mention it to the appraiser if I do intend to trade it in.
His reason behind it was because they'll think theres something more wrong with the vehicle despite the fact that it has a remanufactured engine & transmission thus lowering the value of the car. I'm not entirely sure if it's true but i guess i could see where he's coming from. I would just like some confirmation.

Thanks again for the advice.

LOL. I just bought my AC a month and half ago, and I traded in an RX-8 Shinka for it. Definitely get the 3.5 SR. I was looking for a specific color so I went to Nissanusa.com website and just kept expanding my search radius for dealers and searched their inventory. I finally found what I wanted over 120 miles away, but I found it. In other words keep looking for the one you want. A lot of dealers didn't even stock the 3.5 in the coupe but a diligent search will reap rewards for you my friend.

Yeah I initially had to do the same thing last month. They had just sold the 3.5 coupe I wanted (only one on the lot), so I drove a 3.5 sedan to get a feel for power and handling, and then sat in a 2.5 coupe for a bit to see the interior. That was enough to convince me, so they looked around and swapped another dealer so I could get my 3.5 coupe (for the price I wanted). Done and done. Wait it out and you'll be glad you did.

As for the trade in situation, that's kind of tough. I feel like you could maybe sell a private party on the low mileage benefit of your replacement engine, but a dealer will really only be able to sell what's on the odometer, so it won't be worth any more to them. And like you mentioned, it does seem to imply that there was something wrong with the car. It would probably make me nervous if i were buying it. I don't think you should mention it at all, nor should you feel badly about withholding the information. Good luck with your Altima purchase!

If they don't ask about the engine/transmission, don't tell. :D

+6 on getting a 3.5 SR...esp. in manual if possible. If you can afford it, its DEF worth going through the trouble of looking for one.

do what angelbones did...go on nissanusa.com and search. Even if the closest dealer to you is out of state, its worth going over.

i regret getting a 2.5, but at the time i was limited on the dinero cash.
