i just took my car 92 ka24de to a show had them look at my "sound" which is a timing problem...they wanted $1,800 to fix it for me ...haha ill get a sr b4 i do that..anyway...at idol it makes a clicking/rattling sound but when i rev it up just a bit and hold it...sounds perfect...what could it be that would help me from getting a whole timing kit...possibly guides? or maybe just chain? thanx for input...

Its a common noise with the ka dont worry about it. Ask around and alot of people will tell you that there ka make that same noise all the time. I believe its the guides.

Mines does the same until i forgot to put oil and blew it all up. It sounds like timing chain. I should have a picture inside the valve cover.

This is off an 89' 240sx KA24E single overhead cam SOHCTOP VIEWFRONT VIEW

Remove the guides, search under the FAQ's or tutorials for a details and pictures. If you still have rattling, yes you are going to need a timing kit. Very expensive unless you do it yourself. And if you wait until later you will be looking a major damage and more $$$$ when the chain cuts thru your engine cover or valves hit the pistons...oh remember you have a DE, the pics on the thread show a SOHC...

The DOHC's, you can remove the upper chain guides without issue. Both the DE and E, you MUST keep the lower guides. If you've got an E and hearing a rattling sound, it could be your lifters.

yeah the sound is your guides, the noise goes away somewhat because your chain has hydraulic tensioners and as you increase rpm oil pressure goes up. Yeah i am actually doing mine right now, kind of a pain in the *** but pretty simple compared to some. I picked my kit up for a dohc from a guy called the parts dinosaur on ebay for 155 shipped and thats both chains, guides and tensoners.
