Hey guys so I have a ton of dash lights which I am now getting annoyed by

First one: passenger air bag. When I installed my whole new sound system I took out the top air conditioning vent to get to the radio and unplugged the passenger airbag light like I was supposed to.... but stupidly turned on the vehicle like I wasn't supposed to because I had places to go. This set on the passenger air bag light and I haven't been able to fix it. I've heard the trick "turn the car on and off 3 times" or whatever trick, and I did that tons of times when it first happened to no avail. Perhaps it has to do with being manual, who knows :( I've also disconnected the battery to no avail. Either way, That's been stuck on now for nearly a year and its annoying but its not me biggest concern. Does the passenger airbag still work even though the light is on? Anyone know how to reset it?

The big problem: Starting last month (of course, just barely out of warranty) I started to drive to school, and i noticed my red "brake" light was on as if the parking brake was up while i was driving, however it did not have that big red digital display saying "emergency brake" like it would as if it was up. The red "brake" light stays on until i get to around 4th gear, then it turns off. :squint: ?? I don't understand.

THEN, this started happening not even 2 days later, once I get into 4th gear and that red "brake" light turns off, after about 5 minutes of driving, sometimes less, the orange "VDC off" comes on (traction control, whatever the letters are). I've tried pressing the VDC button to turn it back on/off and it doesn't effect it. That stays on until I turn off the vehicle, then when I turn it back on its off, until I'm driving for around 5 minutes again then it will come back on. I assume during that time I don't have traction control, but I don't drive rough and I don't want to find out :gapteeth:

And today my TPMS light just came on ^.^ but I'm going out now to fix that, unless its another glitch in my system like the above two and my tire pressure is good. But odds are my pressure may have just dropped below.

Check your brake fluid levels. The VDC and Brake lights will illuminate in this case. Not saying that's it, but it's a variable. If you're low, topping it off with some brake fluid should be all you need to do.

If your airbag light is on solid, double check your connections with the car off. Double check fuses to ensure you didn't blow something. I would also check the relays in the box in the engine bay.

If you have the airbag light blinking here is how to reset it:

1. Push the start button two times (Ignition on but engine not started).
2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off INSTANTLY.
3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .)
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times.
5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry.
6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing.

If it does not work the first time, just repeat the steps again.

As far as TPMS, that's an easy check and fix. Let me know how you end up after this or if you have any other questions.

awesome advice on the brake fluid, I would have never thought of that! I'll have to check it later tonight. As for the airbag light trick, Its harder for me because I don't have a key. My 2010 altima coupe is push to start :/ So I have no idea how that comes into play with the trick? Ill try it again using your directions, but like i said its harder when its push to start because it has a push lag as opposed to quickly turning the key. As I said though I'll attempt it again! Thanks for your help and I'll let you know the results tonight

Push start or not, all you have to do is NOT put your foot on the brake when you press the START button, so it won't start the car, but just go to "ON" mode. I'm sure you are already aware of this. I'm not sure what lag you're speaking of. I used to screw around with my coupe's start button sometimes to see how responsive it was. I was able to start the car, hit the button 3 times so it went OFF and then back ON before the car even had a chance to shut off, and each time I pressed it, the car responded accordingly with the "ON" or OFF whatever lights used to say.

Also you mentioned it's a manual gear car. Check your clutch fluid reservoir along with the brake fluid. I am not sure there is a separate light for the clutch on the coupe, but if it uses a hydraulic clutch system, then it's worth a quick check up too!

If you ever see the "brake" light on but not the (!) or parking brake light, then usually that means you're low on fluid, because it's leaking slowly, OR most likely your brake pads and rotor have worn so thin (doesn't take much) that the fluid is being used up to take up the slack in the system due to how the brake pads are seating (I've done the reverse...pushed the brake pads in so hard during a swap that the fluid spilled out of the closed brake reservoir lid!).

Airbag light ^ what he said, or suck it up and deal with some quality stealership, lubeless time.

Hey guys, awesome advice! I put in some brake fluid and it got rid of the VDC and brake light! I really appreciate it! :)

I however have not tried to reset my airbag light again yet, I will do it soon enough and post the results of that. Thanks again guys.

Hey, I've done a lot of stereo work to my car and often had the airbag light
going off on me. I always used the reset procedure and it was successful for me! If you can't do it or don't know how let me know and I'll search up some good explanations of how to do it.
