I come here often to just read posts. Many times I come here without logging in. One thing I noticed before I came to NICO and after is that man...I love Q's alot more now. lol

I mean I always have liked them ever since I saw the first generation Q's, but didnt really look into them.

Now after reading all the posts about Q's and how powerful they are (I have always loved their looks), I am literally drooling over them. I want one so bad. Now the thing is, I cant afford to get one I guess until I graduate college. But I for sure will get one. Its something you gotta have.

Dont get me wrong, I love my J. I wont sell it. I will keep it until it dies. But, I just want the Q.

Well, thanks for reading. I just wanted to vent (for not having one) and to tell you guys I admire Qs and also to tell you Q owners how much I envy you. GRRR lol

Mods, you can delete this if you want.

Well take care people.

Later...

Today I am going to look at a gold 1990 Q45 with 160k. Chain guides done, even has a sticker on the door saying they were done. Everything's in good shape. Dealer (Sterling Auto, Idaho) wants $3850.

Basically the purchase depends on transmission condition. I guess I dont need another Q45, especially since I'm moving across the country in 24 hours, but it seems like a pretty good buy at face value. Go get yourself one!

I saw three Qs today!

The gold 90 I saw was in good shape. Power steering assist was weak and the brake pedal traveled too far, but the engine and transmission were in solid condition at 168k. Chain guides apparently were done, says the salesman. Unfortunately, thats what he was told as well but there is no documentation. transmission fluid was a bright color and shifted perfectly. Chrome piepan rims were ugly and chipping. Fan is ready to crack into pieces, but all other components appear to be in good condition. New struts. The vehicle came from another dealership that took it as a trade-in.Price: $3850 at Sterling Auto, Post Falls ID. Sounds like a good price to me.

Then as I left that dealership, a dark green 90-93 Q with gorgeous 17" wheels passed me by.

On the way home, I saw a 91 Q45t with 125k that, on the outside, was in great shape. It was a pearl white with a lip spoiler and gold emblems. When I got inside, the damn thing was full of french fries. The salesman went to get the key as I was tossing fries out the door and yelling, "Who the **** spills a box of fries in a Q? Its a luxury sedan not a ****ing food tray!"Anyway, he came out with the key and it made a funny sound when we first started it. We restarted it and the clunk sound it made at first went away, but the lifter ticking persisted the entire time. No smoke ever blew out the exhaust. The transmission fluid was oil-colored and not pretty. I suspected the transmission was on its way out, with its laggy shifting. Everything under the hood looked neglected, and some unknown dried white stuff was splattered everywhere -- battery acid? The fuel injectors were replaced at some point.Likely the chain guides were never done.Asking price: $5995 at I-Deal Auto Sales, Greenacres WA. I'd say its worth $2900.

Both of these cars idled smoother than my Q, but only one drove as nicely. The 90, for some reason, felt exceptionally sporty and handled well. The engine had a nicer, throatier sound. Maybe its just the new struts plus my imagination.

If I had the money, I'd adopt them all and take care of them.

The heavier p/s response you felt in the 90 may be normal. I know at some point they lightened the steering some - maybe in 92 or 93. Also a possible problem with that coupling at the end of the steering column where it connects to the rack.

I'd want some serious proof of the guide job... did you notice a difference in the look of the RTV sealing the front cover?

The seal, to me, doesnt indicate the guides were done. I'd lean towards them both being typical used Qs without chain guides done.

The 90 had a significant power steering problem for certain. The 91 Q45t felt stiffer than my 92, but more as you'd expect it to properly be.
