could not get this thing off . It is a tube that is connected to the exhaust manifold .What is this and it's function? Will it hurt or ruin my engine if I do away with it . I need to drop the manifold with the exhaust ,due to someone wringing off the bolt heads that connect the exhaust to the manifold . Again thanks for being here!!! ALLEN D.

There are two tubes on the exh. manifold. the one that goes around the back is the feed for the EGR, and the other one kind of curls around the area and goes to the AIV on the driver's side. There have been hundreds of posts on tens of threads on both of these emissions parts. The AIV can be removed altogether without trouble, and the EGR removal has sparked much debate on this site. Comments and details on both can be found easily with the search function. Search in this 240sx section, Nissan article section, and online mechanic section and you will have plenty of info and opinions.

I remove both AIV and EGR. Left the sensor in place to keep the ECU happy. I leave the EGR feed untouch(that goes around the back) but close it with a cork. ( I ran turbo)

No problem, yet. :)

if its the AIV tube and your getting headers cut it and remove the system (except CA :pface ) save yourself the aggravation. buy a plug from the manufacturer . As for the EGR tube try PB Blaster penetrating oil, whoever invented it should be given the nobel prize. I also advise a decent pair of mechanics gloves BEFORE you skin your knuckles.
