Have any of you guys talked to some "older" people and they asked what you drove and you say nissan 240, and they are all ya, havent seen one of those for awhile, and they think about the 280zs and 240z?

I just think its pretty cool/funny, what are your guys thoughts?

yes! I inquired an older nissan enthusiast about a set of wheels that he was selling. We exchanged a total of 6 emails and up until the 5th he was convinced that it was physically impossible to fit his 8" wide wheels into the fenderwell of my "240z"

I ended up sending him pics of my 240sx and a specs page at edmunds.

i hope I won't be this ignorant in 20 years : /

Well, if you say "240" to a baby boomer, the Z will obviously spring to mind first. The 240Z was far more popular in the 70's than the SX was durrng its run. In fact early Z's are coveted as colletibles. The SX was never a big seller, mostly because of Nissan's poor choice of engines for the US version.

There are other terms that you can say to a baby boomer that will mean something completely different to a teenager or gen X'er. LSD for example. To guys on this website, it's an option on 240sx's. To a baby boomer, it's a drug.

It might be fun to come up with more....

When I found this car sitting under a blanket of dust I had no idea what it was either until I did some research. I remember seeing a beige/pearl HB several years ago that really got my attention but the passion died as I was only really interested in trucks that could corner at that time. When I meet up with fiends at the local hang outs they really have no idea what it is either... and they are in their early 20's with a great interest in the street scene. Their ignorance is a great benefit to me as it allows my "sleeper" its annonymity. Also why I was able to buy this 90 for $215 when it only needed an engine. * big grin *

i would trade my 240sx for a 240z anyday. 240z is probably one of my most favorite cars ever produced. and my car has been refered to as a datsun. when i say i drive a 240, people either think Z, or, what is that???

Yeah I hear that from older people(30's-40's). My car friends know and love the 240sx, and always ask me to sell them my car(no way). I almost bought an 83 240Z, but I bought my 91 240sx instead.

That's cool. 19 is a great age. Older folks don't normally see themselves as old farts until we...I mean... they hit 60 or so. (snicker)

I was talking to a 280ZX owner recently about wanting to buy a 240 to do a small-block swap (so I can hang out with you guys and be cool:D) and the whole time he's thinking "old Z" and I'm thinking "s14"....

Didn't dawn on me until he offered to introduce me to a guy selling an early Z-car.... :D

I'd love to own an old 240Z too....

not to be an a$$ but the 240z wasnt built in 83 i believe they stopped production in 74 or so. then it went to the 260z then the 280z then, 280zx, 300zx, and finally 350z. just thought id throw that out. :batman

edit:240z-280z had the same body panels (280z's had some luvers)and very few diferences other than engine and fuel delivery setups.

I've never had someone call my car a Datsun before. One time though I was talkin to a friend I hadn't sen for awhile and I mentioned "240sx" and he responded, "I didnt know Nissan made motorcycles too" and I had to laugh.
