All the backlights behind the window switches and guages are out!!

I removed the old cell phone and dash mount from my HG50\Q45a. After removing it and reinstalling the dash parts I went back in the house and ate dinner.

Came back out to the car and turned it on and noticed the center window switch had no backlights...

So I removed the center bezel around the shifter and noticed the window switch was unplugged... So I attached the connectors and noticed one bulb that was not lit before now was... and one that was on is now out so I pulled off the bezel and removed each bulb and placed it back...I guess one bulb was not tight and fell out...

Note I am missing one bulb now.

I have a few questions:

1) do you have to have all the bulbs in to complete the backlight circuit.2) is there a fuse for the backlight system I pulled all the underdash fuses and all seem OK.

I share your grief, I've currently have the same problem. See my post in the Q45 board titled "Help! No Interior Lights". The last response was 1/15.

I lost all my backlights changing out one of the minibulbs by making the mistake of doing it with the lights turned on. Are your headlamps stuck on bright and all your running lights (tail lights, turn signals, side markers) out also? My brake lights still work.

After reading the schematic and numerous posts I convinced myself that if its not a blown fuse it must be the headlamp relay next to the engine compartment fuse box. Cost was $42 at the local Infiniti dealer but it did not fix the problem. I've checked every fuse 3 or 4 times and they are all good. A lot of the posts I've read with a similar problem mentioned a 10 amp fuse being burned but I don't know which one it could be.

There are a couple more relays in the circuit, both are mounted below the steering wheel- A headlamp sensor and a courtesy lamp relay. The location of these relays can be found on page EL-240 of the FSM. I haven't figured out how to check these yet and I've got to study the schematic and FSM some more. I just wasted $42 so I'm hesitent to throw money at more parts unless I'm sure.

Take a look at the foldout schematic and tell me what you think. It's the middle row of drawings on the last foldout page in the FSM.

Sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question on whether the bulbs run in series (Christmas lights) and does removing one take them all out.

Is your speedometer and tachometer moving when you move the car? If the whole back display is out with the lights and the speedometer ... then its a fuse - 10A. I blew it once doing something stupid... cant remember.

Man - I loved that car - miss the 94Q.

G'Day Green,I found the reason my Tail Lights and Dash Lights were out was a burned out wireing harness in the RH sunvisor. However, I still don't have backlights in the window switches in the centre console, still working on that. I'm just about to take it to an Auto Electrician and say FIX IT!!!! Anyhow, check your wireing in the internal visors for a short and then check the 10amp fuse under the bonnet (HOOD). If you stand in front of the car its the 4th from the back in the center row.Good Luck

Hey GreenDid you check the PSI of thoes Accum's before you put them in the car????? . I wacked in 900psi for the 4 on the struts a few months ago and they work like a charm. Will be doing the rest while the car is out of action having the timing chain guides done. Could you give me the instructions on reseting the Active Controler please?

Was the fuse burned out? Did you miss it on your first inspection? Or did you replace what appeared to be a good fuse? I am still trying to find my problem.

Two for Two. I took another look at fuse # 4, this time I put it on the meter and checked it for continuity. It was a bad fuse but you sure couldn't see it by just looking at it. Everything works again. Thanks.

Yep Green, did all that when I was trying to find the short in the tail lights.

I know you've posted instructions on reseting the active controller and I've printed them out. However, I'm buggered if I can find them anywhere, not even in SEARCH . Do you know if ALL the Accum's have to be recharged for the controller to work effectivly?

22/1/2005Finally found your info on resetting the controller I've posted it in Infiniti General.
