Part of my car has been replated, but it still looks crappy. It is not very popular at the dealerships anymore. You have to go to the other side of the tracks, nowadays, to get gold plating done.

I have just decided to live with it, myself.

I've considered color-matching the badging. . it'd be best to buy brand new stuff though, and let a pro paint them for you before removing from the protective backing. .

probably the route I'll go on the QX4. . I dunno. .

I bought new trunk badging from Joe when I installed my spoiler. In chrome finish it was less than $20. Gold lettering shouldn't be but a few dollars more.

There's been discussions before about low priced on car plating systems, but I'd personally go with the non-gold-ish look and get soem new chrome/silver ones from Joe .

From what I've seen of the gold replating... it seems to have a greenish-yellow haze that gets worse as it ages. Good for cleaning it up for a quick sale.

From what I hear the good stuff is titanium coated, and doesn't oxidize like the cheaper stuff, not sure if it works on plastic. My $.02....not really into the gold package bling thing.

Similar to 3M tape that is sort of built into the badging. When you buy badging, or an emblem, it comes on a piece of slick paper like a sticker. You peel that off, and bam. . sticker. . plastic, and 3d, but that's pretty much all they are.

What I was thinking is to take the "sticker" to the body shape, and have them paint it before removing it from the protective backing.

Just a thought.

The G has a darker chrome on the grille, and I think I've seen it used on some BMWs, etc. Is it called Black Chrome? I think that would look very nice. I've often thought that doing all of the chrome on my Q would be very nice...

Paint cleaner/polish will reomove the gold and expose the chrome underneath, that's what I did and have been pleases with the results.
